TMI Question (updated)

Okay, this is gross...

The past two days I've had a lot of pressure in my pelvic area (really low, basically just above the top of my privates). I chalked it up to having a consistently full bladder or the baby being ridiculously low (he's been break dancing in there for the past few days with the occasional swift kick to the vag lol).

However, starting last night, I've started getting this really uncomfortable, sometimes painful feeling on the inside of my vag and I'm tender. It feels somewhat better when I sit but the second I stand, it comes back. I thought it might be a UTI or bladder infection but it doesn't hurt to go to the bathroom.

Does anyone know what this is? Is this worth calling the doctor over?

***update***

I went to the doctor and she checked out LO. HB is good (~145-150. He really wasn't cooperating to give her a good listen). While she was listening for the HB, he defiantly kicked the Doppler. This has happened several times now! She said she thinks he doesn't like the pressure and it is his way of saying he disapproves lol

She poked around and felt for his position. Certain places she pressed down hurt to the point where I was tearing up. Given where my pain is, she said that he more than likely had his little foot pressed oh so nicely against the side of my pelvis and is stretching out. He's applying more pressure to my pelvic bone before the right amount of relaxin kicks in to make it less painful.

I'm supposed to take it easy today and see if I can get him to shift. Glad everything is okay, but this little dude needs to move. I feel like my hip is dislocating and my groin is tearing.

  • I have no idea, but I think I would call the doctor just in case
  • I'm with amccul. I would call your dr. I hope it's nothing to worry about!

  • yeah I'd call the doc but what kind of pain? Is it sharp pain like infamous lightening crotch pain? or a dull pain? I had like a dull pain where I felt like he could fall out beause the pressure was so strong. My doc said that I could have like vericose veins down there and the baby was just putting pressure. I wear a maternity belt and it helps with the pressure there and relieves my back.

  • It does sound similar to pains I had with Ava Nichol but she was head down and really low for the whole pregnancy so my doctor chalked it up to pressure from baby.

I would talk to your doc though because UTIs can present themselves differently while pregnant.

@vitan - where the pressure is feels like a strong dull pain (imagine someone taking three fingers to your pelvis and pressing down with a little force and then just holding it there. It becomes stronger the second I stand up and makes me feel like I'm going to fall forward like my equilibrium is off (not dizzy, just a lot of force). The pain on the inside are like pangs that are semi-sharp.

@wigglyslilsis - what did you do to relieve the pain from her being that low? This is constant and really uncomfortable. He's always been low, just not this low.

ETA: I don't know if this is related or not but when I cross my legs, I get a semi-sharp pain down there. Everytime.

  • Yup I would say it's the same pain, however, I didn't get dizzy like spells. Even when I was not pregnant, I'd get that pressure feeling but only during my period. I hope your doc has a better answer for you. Maybe a maternity belt would help. They have ones that can be used as a belly band after as well.

  • I'm going in to get checked. Appt is at 4:40. I'm just going to have to suck it until then. I'm going to be so embarrassed if it is just him pressing against something. I've never felt this before though.

I think my husband just thinks I'm insane and overly paranoid that something is going to go wrong. I don't want to waste money on appts I don't need and I know pregnancy is uncomfortable. I just don't want to ignore it when I have the feeling that something isn't right.

  • There was very little that relieved it but sitting on an exercise ball was the only way I could sit for the last week and a half because it felt like I was sitting on her head if I sat down. I did use the exercise ball before to help with the pressure.

I also went into PTL at 31 weeks so I think that is why she was so low for so long. And I had SPD which caused a lot of pain down there and sounds kind of like the sharp pain you are describing. It is hard for me to distinguish which pains/pressures/feelings were different things. Pain is so weird because everybody feels it and describes it differently.

Oh and @vitan I have that pressure now withmy period too. It hurts so bad but my doc ssaid it was totally normal especially for someone with endometriosis. I never had it before pregnancy though.

Oh ok. Glad I'm not the only one! I asked my friends once and they had no idea what I was talking about. It's just odd like you feel your insides are going to come out or something.

@pennstated912 Don't feel embarrassed or too paranoid. I've never heard a nurse sound irritated when I've called to ask lame questions. I think they hear it all, every day, all day. good luck at your appt.!

I'll post later when the doctor tells me that all of this is in my head lol

Oh, and @wigglyslilsis - you officially have me freaked out about PTL. :(

  • I'm sorry! I didn't mean to. I just feel like I went into labor early and she was headed down to come out but they stopped me and Ihung out at 50% eeffaced, 3cm dilated and zero station for like 6 weeks. It felt like she was coming out. Also, I had the PTL scare but they managed to keep me pregnant until 38 WK 2 day by giving me shots to stop labor and put me on modified bed rest.

If it helps at all my MIL had the same feelings of pressure and sitting on baby's head and she went full term and into labor on her own at like 39 weeks.

I think my worry more lies that both of my aunts had all the same Ob medical complications I do (endometriosis, PCOS) and both of them went into PTL in between 29-32 weeks. Both my cousins are fine, but it makes me wonder about my family history.

  • I hope everything turns out fine at your appt. Hugs!

    Lesson learned!!

  • Yeah I can see that. As far as I know there was no history of PTL in my family. My brother was 6 1/2 weeks early but because my mom had pre eclampsia.

I don't know why I started to go into labor so early. But the shots were enough to stop me so for that I am grateful.

Oh and the pain and pressure down there wasn't helped by the fact that my daughter was 8 lbs 4 oz. Which isn't that big but I am pretty petite so it was a huge surprise.

Anyway I hope the doc can help you today and tells you it is totally normal!

Ditto. It's not like you're calling them about every little ache or pain. I think it's fine to call/see your OB when something feels off. Think about all of the women who go to L&D b/c they think might be leaking amniotic fluid, and it turns out they peed themselves? I have read so many posts about that These doctors and nurses must see it all the time.

Honestly, until my SCHs went away, I called for everything because I was in a lot pain. I also called when I had my 5-day migraine to make sure what I was taking was safe. Other than that, no calls, just a lot of appts to monitor the SCHs (which according to my a/s, are completely gone).

  • Adalyn was the same way in the womb, always stretching and hurting her momma. It's funny because now that she's here she hates not being able to stretch her arms and legs out. Lol

Anyways, I'm sorry you're in pain. I hope he gives you some relief over the next few weeks. It'll all be worth it though!
